The biggest problem with this reboot is that it comes only five years after Spider-Man 3, and only ten years after the first movie. If it had come later, I think everyone would be much happier with it. Personally, I liked it because I consciously made the effort to watch it from a fresh perspective-----I basically wiped the previous films from my memory as I watched this movie. So I watched it as if it were the very first Spidey movie ever. Seen from this perspective, it's quite a satisfying movie.

As a critic said in a review I recently read: "In a parallel universe, this movie came out in 2002, and the first Sam Raimi Spidey film came out in 2012. And in that parallel universe, they are complaining about the Sam Raimi movie when comparing it to this one. " I thought that was a witty comment. Indeed the reason so many of us aren't happy with it, is because we are attached to the 2002 movie. But let's face it: in various ways, this new movie is a better film. Hopefully, it will eventually grow on you guys with subsequent viewings. :)
