I'm one of the few people who admit to liking SM 3 better than SM 2,so I can't really agree with that.smiley: grin Sm 2 did have a better villain in Doc Ock,but I digress.

I look at it this way,I believe they shouldn't do another full blown re-telling of the origin in the Batman reboot (which lets face it, will happen sooner rather than later) because Batman Begins is darn near perfect. It's almost impossible to do it better,so they shouldn't even try at this point. At least not for years.

Now the 02 film is to Spidey what BB is to Batman. The only difference is that you could actually reboot SM's origin and go much more faithful in many ways.As has been mentioned in this thread already, you could work up the romance with Betty Brant (his first "true" love) or go with Gwen like they did in this film. They could focus on Peter's selfish money making pursuits.(despite both films, the original comic lesson was not about getting revenge and being punished by that choice, but doing "the right thing" and not being self-obsessed) They could focus on how Peter uses Spider-Man as his other persona.(something that seems to only get touched on in all the films, most notably SM 3,which is probably another reason I like it )

I had hoped that they would focus on one of those areas in this film, but like I said before,in order to justify re-doing the origin they had to lose lots of integral elements of the origin, simply so it wouldn't be looked at as retreading old ground.Does the audience want to sit through another wrestling match scene?Probably not,so it has to go regardless of it's importance to the story. There are other instances where things were dropped, purely for the sake of it.(No JJJ seemed most noticeable to me.)

Now,I have to admit I'm disappointed, because I feel it's a big missed opportunity, but I did enjoy it to an extent.(I'm planning on seeing it again in the theater and I'm sure I'll get the DVD) So I wouldn't call it a disaster.I'd like to think with the origin out of the way,the sequel will be better, but in all honesty,I'm expecting more of the same.Still chasing Uncle Ben's killer, still trying to find out whatever "secret" about his parents is out there, more "Twilight-ish" romance with Gwen,etc........

Wait till I get my violin!
